CANGAS membrane nitrogen generator

   With more than 20 years of experience in the field of air separation, CANGAS had developed the technology of nitrogen production from air by membrane module. We had conbined all the equipments/parts that are needed for membrane nitrogen generator in one compact unit for easy operation, installation, maintenance, relocation, and all kinds of application. Here below are some information about the membrane nitrogen technology.

   A commercial-scale, single-stage, spiral-wound membrane system has been operated for approximately 20 months to upgrade low-quality natural gas from a well in East Texas. Throughout the test period the retentate product (“sales” gas) met pipeline specifications. Data were obtained on two membrane modules containing two types of asymmetric cellulose acetate membranes, one “standard” and the other one of higher density. A summary of the field test data shows the effects of the operating variables of pressure, feed flow rate, and CO2  concentration in the feed (from 3 to 25 mole percent). Concentrations greater than 6 mole percent were obtained by adding pure CO2  to the feed gas. In addition, computer models for the separation of gases under “perfect mixing” and cross-flow conditions were applied to the analysis of the field data. In general, the field test data were consistent with a flow regime which was intermediate between perfect mixing and cross-flow.

Selective Permeability


   Nitrogen membranes separate gases by the principle of selective permeation across the nitrogen membranes wall. For nitrogen polymeric membranes, the rate of permeation of each gas is determined by its solubility in the nitrogen membrane material, and the rate of diffusion through the molecular free volume in the nitrogen membrane wall. Gases that exhibit high solubility in the nitrogen membranes, and gases that are small in molecular size, permeate faster than larger, less soluble gases.


High Selectivity

The superior performance of CANGAS nitrogen membranes is derived from their high selectivity and high productivity, which are a result of the ability to produce nitrogen membranes with an extremely thin, defect -free separating layer.


Fast Gases and Slow Gases


    "Fast" gases permeate through the nitrogen membrane wall more readily than "slow" gases, thus separating the original gas mixture into two streams. The purity of the desired streams can be adjusted by changing the operating conditions.

    The ability of a nitrogen membranes to separate two gases is determined by their "selectivity", the ratio of permeabilities of the two gases. The higher the selectivity, the more efficient the separation and less energy is needed to run the system.
